Putting Pieces Back Together

Am back from China, and it was wonderful. I am horribly jet-lagged at the moment, but slowly recovering from that and a cold I got the last few days I was there. I'm still trying to figure out this breathing business, but it's good. I managed to do the 911 transcript stuff today despite being a bit foggy, and was happy to do it.

On the wonderful news side, incandescens has gotten a book deal with Tor and I cannot recommend it enough. *laughs* The first book should be released sometime in August.

I'm also gradually finding my brain again and sorting through all the photos from the trip. We went to Beijing (Forbidden City, Great Wall), Xian (Terracotta Warriors, Ming Dynasty Tombs), Guilin (mountains and water like in the paintings and osmanthus forests), and Shanghai (more skyscrapers than any other city in the world). It was a whirlwind introduction to the country in all its aspect, both geographic and historic. As the tour guide said, "Xian is China's past, Beijing is its present, and Shanghai its future."

I'm going to do something I haven't done before, which is write the whole trip up after the fact. Given the mildly problematic connection prospects while we were there, it was a practical decision as well as one that fit the fact that we were pretty much busy for every minute we were awake or resting up to tackle the next stage. It was an amazing trip, and Jet was really happy with it and with his first time off this continent.

Anyway, hope everyone is well, and I'll be rolling this out as I'm able.
Wow. "Jasper Fforde by way of Gail Carriger’s Soulless, with the humour of Ben Aaronovitch" is right up my alley.

Newest news: I cut off 16" of hair! It's still down to my shoulders, but there's a lot less of it now and I'm donating the harvested stuff to WigsForKids.org.

And I'm an auntie... my little brother & his wife had a girl just over 2 weeks ago.
I think it is right up your alley!! *dances about*

Wooo about your hair! I saw pictures of the bagged locks. Very very keen.

Wow. Yay for Aunties! Hope you enjoy! That is really great!
Ooh that sounds like an amazing trip! Past, present and future all in one trip, no wonder you didn't have much time for writing....
Welcome back! Glad you had a good trip.

Yeah, even when I have decent net I still don't manage to write trip reports during a trip. That would probably require a different kind of travel than the kind I do, or that it seems you did this time.

Looking forward to reading them when you get to posting!
*grins* Yes.

There really wasn't much time or, for that matter, brain space, to do the processing I have to do to write. The Biloxi trips always had downtime in the evenings so I could catch up, but these....

Still not quite the way you travel, as I've always admired how you travel, this was with a full blown tour setup... but fun nonetheless and an excellent introduction to the country.

Hoping to get to this soon!!
