In the name of irony... the hometown of the lady that went off to fight California fires is now under fire threat. Five acres seems pretty small, but with the winds here have been really strong today. Ouch.

Fire on the Mountain

Well, the threat's now a reality...

The entire sky to the north, from the mountains that bound the West all the way out to the horizon of the plains to the East is covered in smoke. Billows of it look like some earth-born thunderhead in dirty gray and brown that, wind-blown frays apart to cover the rest of the sky in a murky haze. Another co-worker is packing up all their irreplaceable, the development next to theirs has already been told to evacuate. The progression of it is like clockwork. The winds here are gusting up to 70 mph, which has made it night impossible to get tanker planes up there, and has made conditions really difficult for the fire fighters that are there. All the neighboring communities are sending fire teams up onto the mountain.

For those that want to see a local article and pictures of our local fire. (Sorry, the previous picture was on our intranet...)

We're actually far away from the fire, so there's no threat to us, besides, on the plains there's nearly nothing to burn out here. The mountains with their wild trees and the towns with their planted trees are in far more danger than us.
