drabble for nannete -- Favorite Story

Ururu ached under her covers. She still couldn't remember hitting the Arrancar.

Candlelight flickered over paper walls. The door slid back to allow a striped hat to poke into the room.

"Can't sleep?"

She shook her head.

"How 'bout a story?"

Getaboshi sat down on her futon. Greatly daring, she crept into his lap; he held her close and she sighed.

"Gunnam? Please?" she pleaded.

"Certainly..." He tucked her under his chin and started her favorite story of all.

"Once upon a time there was a weapon who dreamed she was a girl; everyone knew her as Battle Angel Alita..."

drabble for r0ck3tsci3ntist -- A Woman's Place

Title: A Woman's Place
Requester: r0ck3tsci3ntist
Series: Bleach
Requested Topic: Unohana, Jyuushiro, and Shunsui alone, as in no witnesses/ the role of women in battle/ UST.
Due to http://liralen.livejournal.com/769598.html.

Unohana dragged Jyuushiro's bloody body to the cave mouth.

Shunsui felt bone ends grate even as Unohana said, "Stay still, you'll only make it worse."

He obeyed, but blacked out when she released Minazuki.

Then cool hands stroked his face, his throat. A slender, iron-hard arm braced his back, and he gasped in pain as she lifted him in her arms. Her reiatsu blazed. Her lips brushed Shunsui's forehead. She brought him close; her throat was soft and warm against his closed eyelids.

"Idiots, trying to do this alone."

"'M glad you came," he whispered.

Her arms tightened. "Me, too."

Hm... Rules Change and Fast Input

I edited the scribbles entry to say that anyone that guesses at all gets a drabble. *grins* It wasn't about people getting it right so much as *me* getting as much as I could right.

Uhm, yeah, the chapter(s) are now off, as you can probably see, due to the relative flood of drabbly goodness.

And, uhm... yeah... I read all of the first "Dogs" series so I'll add Dogs to the list, as I'm really likin' Mihai (and the short shot of Ian), Badou, Haine (I really like him a lot for some reason), and Naoto (far more than I should, perhaps, the knife fight against the katana had me analyzing each move... *laughs*) and I'm a little ways into the longer series.

Uhm, and, yeah... I also read Bones of Faerie. Twice. I'm on a third read-through but Jet's having his all-day birthday party today and we did our taxes. So I have excuses. *laughs*

It is hauntingly, painfully good. About a girl growing up in a post-Apocolypse world where Faerie and Humans annihilated each other, where all magic is deadly, everything suspect, and her father makes sure everything is "safe". There is violence, some of it which made me flinch (unusual for me), and it reminds me of just how much kids want and need to read things that are "older" than they are.

It's also the first thing I've read that never made my new-fledged internal editor cringe, and, in fact I was like... wow... I want to something like *this*. It's so densely packed I think even gogoangelgunboy would have a lovely time with it, if I could actually tempt him with fantasy... *laughs*

amberley gave me my copy, so I'll happily give a copy of Bones of Faerie to the first person that asks for a copy in a comment.

[Edited: The offered copy has been accepted!]

drabble for chuchacz -- Refinement

Title: Refinement
Requester: chuchacz
Fandom: Bleach
Requested Topic: Renji and Kenpachi -- and this picture as the prompt

Whenever Renji started feeling too much like a kicked stray, he took his sorry ass over to the 11th Division practice grounds. Fighting other Rukongai survivors helped clear his head; too much thinking or distractions got the shit beat out of you.

Afterward, in the Division baths, he caught sight of Zaraki's back. Ropes of muscle and webs of scars created a contour map of all that he had fought through to win and fight again. The fires of Rukongai's 80th District had distilled Zaraki into something absolute.

It was a refinement, Renji mused, that even Kuchiki-taichou might appreciate.

Oh oh OH!!! GO LOOK!!

aruarian_dancer gave me something utterly gorgeous for her gift from the gift meme! It's a lovely, lovely rendering of the Kayuya Hime just before her ascent/return to the sky from a scene near the end of the the story "Taketori Monogatari"... *giggles* For some of my flist, who have played Okami and know the story of the girl who fell from the sky that was taken care of by the bamboo carver and his wife, this is an absolutely GORGEOUS picture of her in full regalia.

I've been very inspired by aruarian_dancer's "doodles" as she's just started drawing again after a haitus. And I told her I'd do a little doodling, too, beyond just the painting, which is why I'm actually drawing manga people again after getting kind of discouraged. So I'm really amazed by her sense of color, ability to do astonishing detail, and how beautiful her drawings are. *happy sighs*
