Wearing of the Green, Pink, and Red?

I have to admit that for all that I do like corned beef and cabbage, I'm happiest with the corned beef hash the next morning. We had ours a few days late. I was finally up to it, though I'm still feeling oddly fragile.

Jet wore green from head to toe on St. Patrick's Day. He had on r0ck3tsci3ntist's hat, a green jungle t-shirt with red parrots, the green chamo sweater I'd knit him, green shorts, and neon green socks. It was in the 60's that day (15° C+ a bit), so the shorts were entirely appropriate for his metabolism. Admittedly it was more from a desire not to be pinched than any ethnic pride on his part. *laughs*

But the rules changed on him, poor guy. *laughs* His teacher gave everyone a green sticker if they weren't wearing any green, so there would be no pinching of anyone, and then the whole class came up with new rules. Boys could get *kissed* if they were wearing red, and girls could get kissed if they were wearing pink!

Fanfic Rec

I'm not that good at keeping up with Bleach fandom, and I don't read enough to rec much; however, there's a story that's gradually unrolling at the moment that I really, really like by demented_dee called "Closet Games". She written a lot of Naruto fanfic, in the D/s genre, and did a very sweet Chad/Ishida fic as her first Bleach fic. Most of what she writes is very hard-core yaoi, often with BDSM or just plain D/s aspects, just so you're appropriately informed before going. XD. I like a lot of what she writes, but "Closet Games", so far, has really caught at me.

"Closet Games" is an AU Renji finding an AU Byakuya in darkprism's own city. I've always had trouble with ByaRen in canon 'cause I just can't get around my own dislike of any romantic encounter up or down a chain of command. I've just seen that kind of thing mess up too many people to be able to ever write it, and I often can't even read it. (Yes, cmc42, you're one of the few exceptions to that rule) By sidestepping that whole universe, demented_dee has done something marvelous even in just the first two chapters.

Reassuringly, she's said she's written the whole thing before starting to put out the chapters, so those that like knowing it's all going to be posted can feel good about it being 'done'. It's making me rethink some of how I work, honestly.

I love what she's done with Renji's backstory, incorporating a lot of the character-defining traits of his canon history, and how confident and *solid* he is there. So just... go read.

Random Things

Weekends mostly consist of "What do we have to do?" and "Jet, what do you want to do?" and then we schedule around that, other than Sunday mornings are pretty much taken. So I never seem to be able to *schedule* writing time on the weekend to meet up with those of you that write when you're just off from work or school and stuff (okay, other than those in the UK...).

I have the Empty Bowl benefit for lunch today, but after that, between playing with Jet, I'll probably hang out in the fandom/amateur/just-shy-of-the-pros writer's war room (I shouldn't have said yaoi-only as really it isn't, but you really do have to be prepared to have folks talking about some hard-core yaoi is all) as I can, both this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon and maybe even into the evening. We'll see.

If two or more gather, we'll have us a war or more.

Spring in Colorado

So it was 60° two days ago (~15° C). Yesterday it snowed about 10 inches of lovely very-wet snow, and today it was sunny and bright and melty and tomorrow it's supposed to be back up about 60. By Wednesday we're supposed to get more snow again. It is a little crazy.

Empty Bowls was good. My bowl was in the auction, paired with 10 stems of tulips. *grins* It was nearly at the "buy it now" price, so John bought it because he liked the butterfly. And this was just half an hour in, and the lady that usually buys my bowls hadn't even seen it, yet. It was oddly good to get it, as I have never gotten my own bowl at these things.

The soups, bread, and ice cream made a wonderful lunch.

Jet and I played for a while in the afternoon, and then he got friends to come over and play with them until John had dinner ready. He also rubbed a whole rack of spare ribs, so we'll likely smoke them tomorrow, when it's warm again. *laughs* So a good, full weekend...
