But then I showed up at school with a cat mom and a Princess Mom with her little princess in tow and a baby Princess in a stroller. Blink. My. I just had my Nekobus shirt on and my Cat in the Hat hat, which had people smiling at me. I would think, "Why are they smiling at me? I don't recognize them... should I be recognizing them?" and then realize that they recognized the *hat*.
The class was filled with Moms. Then the kids poured in one side and then out the other, and the whole school was lined up outside so that everyone could walk around the whole school and get seen by everyone else. Wow. I trotted around the outside of the whole thing, desperately attempting to get out in front to actually take pictures of people's faces instead of their backs. I was the designated "Picture Mom" and so I felt the responsibility keenly, eventhough there were three or four other moms all snapping, filming, and running alongside as well. Paparazzi, one noted, don't hold a candle to *us*.
We then had a nice little party and lots of cool games, crafts, and things to do. Then gift bags and cupcakes and milk for everyone. The cupcakes were some amazing colors, and the kids inhaled them happily.
Jet was supposed to run and get the lunch bucket with all the lunch boxes. So he was the last one done with his job, and it was right as the alarm rang. He and I filled up his backpack, and then he went for the bus. I told him to go without me, but when I got outside, it was a maelstrom of kids and it took me a while to spot him. He was waving at me, waiting for me when he saw me come out. So I trotted over there, and we quick walked to the busses, which were starting up. He said, "I'm not usually this late... but they're here."
One of the kids on the bus was saying, "I *saw* Jet in the parade, he's coming..."
and then Jet was on the bus and going safely home. I thought I'd stay long enough to make sure he made it on the bus so that if he didn't we'd walk home together or something. But it was good that he got on and didn't have to deal with the busy road between school and home.
I rode my bike home and got back just as they started home from the stop. So I got to walk with them back to the house.
It was good.
